Do Not Leave Unattended
Lesson for the day: buying unprocessed valerian root from Whole Foods in a little woven bag and leaving it on the kitchen counter for the cat to find is a very bad idea.
Having forgotten that valerian is roughly as enticing as catnip to cats (and it smells a lot stronger, too, so would presumably have a wider radius of Potential Cat Attraction), I'd carelessly left it lying around until I could find a more permanent home for it. Not that the medicine cabinet is that hard to decide on, but the procrastination seemed justified.
Anyway, when walking in my door, after having decided to go home for lunch today, prompted by the fact that I'd left this morning not wearing a belt and had been feeling rather ridiculous about it (it's been that kind of day), I encountered the spectacle of a kitchen floor covered from corner to corner with valerian twiggies.
I also found on the couch a very sleepy cat.
Stuff works, I tell you. He sort of moped around for the whole half hour or so I heated up and ate my veggie enchilada bowl lunch and watched a History Channel program about the S.S. Central America. I'm glad it isn't dangerous — at least I've never heard of a valerian root overdose, anyway.
