Tolltag
I received an unfriendly letter from the NTTA today (well, yesterday, had I been diligent about checking my mail). It's a Dallas tollway ticket, alleging that I failed to pay a toll on four different occasions, apparently on times when my Tolltag didn't work.

Initially I thought perhaps I had forgotten to change my Tolltag registration over to my current car, but I'm almost certain I took care of all of that about a year ago, when I started getting yellow lights on the toll plazas when my previous credit card had expired. Hm.

Anyway, if nothing else, this solves the curiosity I've often had about what a toll ticket is like, and how much they charge. Now I know they batch up perceived violations (four, in this case), and charge you $25 for each, plus the unpaid toll, of course.

The letter has a section that explains that the owner of a valid Tolltag is never assessed a fine, along with several reasons why a Tolltag might have become invalid, along with how to restore an invalid Tolltag to valid status once again, but is ambiguous, at best, with any indication whether the fines would be dropped at that point.

I couldn't help noting the irony of the fact that this happened only a week before my eight year or so tenure in Dallas is ending. Oh well. It's a pain, but it's not like I don't have the time to mess with it.
