Settling In
Ah the joys of stuffy sinuses. I think I've had an incognito cold the last several days. I've managed to keep it from blowing out into a big ugly cold, but I've had congested sinuses, some drainage, a little fatigue, sneezing, all of that. Just no snot on the outside, and for that, at least, I'm thankful. On the way into work this morning, I took a detour to the Shopper's Drug Mart and picked up some Pseudephedrine tablets. They seem to be doing the trick, though they always make me feel a little strangely paranoid or something — not sure why. Paranoid is better than asleep, though, so I stick to that over the drowsy stuff.
So, now that you know my current phlegm status, everything else seems pretty run-of-the-mill, right?
I got my picture badge for my new job, so I don't feel like a refugee anymore.
The movers are coming tomorrow to pick up my furniture and other things.
My cellphone has a silent mode called "Manner Mode." Instant etiquette at the push of a button. I can't think of at least a dozen people who need a Manner Mode, and it has nothing to do with loud ring tones.
I was able to raise the credit limit on my MasterCard. This is good, as the prospect of finding a place to charge all my moving fees until I can get them all paid off, meanwhile having several weeks of hotel waiting to be reimbursed, and my day to day expenses here — I'm running out of credit room. I'd hoped my Canadian Visa card would help solve this problem, but since my line of credit with it would be so low, and that's assuming I supplied the cash up from to secure it, it doesn't really help much. I'll stop complaining about this soon, once the hotel and moving costs have landed somewhere for good.
I love being able to cube-gopher up from my desk and look at mountains. Every couple of days there's a little more snow on them, too. How exciting.
I brought the iPod into the office today. It's made documentation reading far less dull. I missed my music. Also having a tea setup helps — I missed my tea too, and it was silly to go downstairs and buy it, though people do that here — it's frightening how many Starbucks cups come riding up the elevator in people's hands all day long.
Tomorrow is Friday! And then I have the weekend! To . . . uh, wow, I don't know what to do. Things on the list include laundry (if I can find a decent place), meeting Amber at the Tex-Mex place, whale watching maybe (though the idea of spending that much money right now makes me shudder a little), doing some bank stuff (though I can't think of any specifics right this minute), walking around Chinatown some more, maybe spending more time in Stanley Park, possibly renting a car and exploring more of the metro area or driving up to the mountains or down to Seattle (though, see "money" above). Tough to say. It's sort of a depressing feeling when you realize you've been looking forward to the weekend all week long, and then you can't figure out why.
