Phone Karma
I think in the whole time since I've lived here, I've gotten one wrong number.
Wrong numbers 2, 3, 4, and 5 all occurred today, #3 being on my desk phone, and all others on my cell phone.
Also, the days of Clueless Account Representatives are over. I called TELUS to upgrade my cell phone rate plan, and between the fact that a real live agent answered the phone within about 300 milliseconds of the end of the obligatory "This call may be recorded" and that she had my rate plan changed within about 50 seconds, I was so shocked I hung up without remembering to update my billing address and email address like I'd meant to.
I also called Banana Republic to cancel my card with them. I had to suffer a little of the automated help person, but pushing 0 got me through to someone pretty quickly, and not only did he assure me the card is actually good at stores in Canada (of which I'm still skeptical, actually, because it didn't use to be, according to my billing statements), but he also was able to update my address without once putting me on hold or getting all freaked out that my postal code isn't a 5-digit number. If nothing else, that alone gives me some hope that maybe the card is indeed good here.

It's been tough readjusting to life in Vancouver again after a wild and crazy extended weekend back in Dallas with my friends. I remembered why I love them so much, and my circle of friends here is more like a small polygon or something.
I brought a little stomach flu back with me, but now that I've recovered from it, I feel more energetic than I have for months. Maybe it's the suddenly chilly weather, or the fact that my apartment no longer looks like a warehouse, but whatever the reason, it's a good change. I now feel like I actually have enough energy for work that I can actually do a good job again, which I didn't really feel like I was doing.
Today was the first major snow of the winter. Not a lot of that around here most of the time. It was beautiful, although my work shows are not very good shoe-treading footwear, it turns out. No surprise. My coworkers asked if I own any boots. "Um, some brown hiking boots, and a pair of combat boots, but that would be dumb with business clothes." "Are they black?" "Yeah." "No worries then. I'd go with the combat boots if it's still icy tomorrow."
Combat boots are now business casual. I love it.
When looking for a good picture of the weather to show people, I ran across this site which is a giant collection of Vancouver webcams. Pretty cool, I though, especially the first one which shows a great view of the Burrard St bridge most of the time.
