Checklist
It's been another one of those months where I've been so focused on work, personal relationships, birthdays, rampant consumerism, and all that kind of thing that the more domestic duties had started to suffer.

I began the morning with a pretty aggressive checklist, and now, as I stand here looking out my window and brushing off my hands, I have to say, I'm pleased with how much of it I accomplished, leaving me the remainder of a guilt- free weekend.

  • Get a haircut
  • Empty shredder and take paper recycling
  • Recycle cans and bottles — significant because it typically takes me a second trip down to the recycling room, and the elevators here make that at least a 10 minute investment
  • Clean out refrigerator — nothing green this time, but the sour cream was getting a little smelly
  • Shop for groceries — partially based on the output of the refrigerator activity
  • Take out trash — see a trend here?
  • Take old clothes to car — actually delivering the clothes to a donation kiosk is a separate checklist item which didn't make the list
  • Make tea — for nourishment during all this work
  • Vacuum
  • Scrub the mess where Ivan missed the box — it's embarrassing how often this is on the to-do list
  • Mop the floor
  • Do something about the cables crossing my apartment — I didn't get as much traction on this as I wanted, since Staples no longer carries those cable covering things
  • Take new jeans to the tailor to get chopped to appropriate leg length
  • Clean bathroom
  • Clean kitchen
  • Clean the cat's dishes
  • Tidy up the bookshelf
  • Take the snowboard to storage — it's mid-June, so I think any hopes of using it at the moment are probably a little futile
  • Catch up on laundry, including the kitchen rug
  • Conduct conference call for work — from 4 to 5pm, so it didn't put too much of a smear on my Saturday
  • Blog post — check

  • Now all I have to do is wait for the significant other to get off work, and decide what kinds of fun things this Saturday night should comprise.
